"A kick sampling water study" in the Ryland River Omeath.
On Monday 15th May Omeath District Development coordinated 'A kick sampling water study' in the Ryland River Omeath in conjunction with Ben Malone from the Local Authorities Water Programme #LAWPRO pupils from both Scoil Naomh Lorcan and Scoil Naomh Bríd as part of our Omeath Biodiversity Action Plan.
Kick Sampling in rivers is a technique used to evaluate the water quality of a river by examining species diversity and invertebrates in a river bed by disturbing the river sediment of a flowing river and identifying species by using a fine mesh net.
Examples of invertebrates that were being looked for in the kick sampling study were dragonflies, mayflies, water beetles, fly lava, and chalcid wasps and from the sample analysis, the quality of the river can be determined.
