Green School
Ms.Hanratty is our Green School Teacher having secured five green flags for our school. We have a well developed Green School committee, who take part in lots of competitions and events throughout the year!
This year the children are working very hard to win our 6th Green Flag Global Citzenship Litter and Waste. It enables schools to discover how Green-Schools work, has a positively influenced people and environments world wide while revising the previous Litter and Waste themes.
Here are some of the things we do in our school to show you we are environmetally friendly.
- We work together to have a litter free school
- We planted fruit trees last summer
- We have a herb patch in our school yard
- We eat healthy lunches
- We compost fruit peelings and teabags
- We work with the Omeath Tidy Towns Committee on an annual spring clean of the village
- We make useful things from re-cycled materials
- We have water butt
- We do not use a lot of heat - instead we wear warm jumpers!
- We always ensure our lights are switched off when we are out of our classrooms
- We planted a beautiful medieval garden last May. This can be seen in the village playground and in our photo gallery
- We use seaweed from the shore to help our plants grow
